The River

One of the longest Atlantic salmon rivers in Eastern Canada, the Moisie takes its source from the Northern plateau of Labrador, wanders south for some 400 kilometers (250 miles), along deep gorges to finally flow into the Saint-Lawrence near the City of Sept-Îles.

The Moisie is famous for its large salmon, thus being the dreamed destination of many experienced fishermen from all over the world. Every year, many salmons of 20, 30 and some exceeding 40 pounds are caught.

Only fly fishing is permitted and is either done wading, near shores or from an anchored canoe. Our services include a guide and a boat for two fishermen or one guide for each wading rod.

It is compulsory that fishermen wear life jackets at all times which are provided by us.

There is no daily limit on catch and release, provided barbless hooks are used and the salmon is in good condition when released.

It was on the Moisie-Ouapetec territory that was founded the famous "Angling Charmed Circle" whose members succeeded in landing a salmon of at least 9 kilos (20 pounds) while using a #16 single hook.

Lee Wulff is one of the founding members of this elite club that so far only a few gifted fishermen have succeeded in achieving.

To anyone interested in joining the 16/20 club, we suggest that you contact Mr. Paul Leblanc of Boutique Salmo Nature Orvis in Montreal at 514-871-8447 or toll free 1-800-748-8864 to obtain all necessary equipment for facilitating this task. If you succeed, you will have the honour of being part of a very select group.

Good luck
